Jubilate Choral Festival
On March 31, 2007,
selected chorus students from Brighton High School, Cottonwood High School,
Hunter High School, Judge Memorial Catholic High School, and Whittier
Elementary School, West Valley City,
will be performing at the Jubilate
Invitational Choral Festival at Abravanel
Hall in Salt Lake City.
Jubilate (pronounced you-bee-la-tay) is a professional
chamber choir based in Salt Lake City. Jubilate’s charter states as
one of its goals “to support choral music in local schools”. In the past eight years, Jubilate
has accomplished this goal in many ways but this festival is the most
ambitious.
The three goals of this
festival are to stress the importance of continuing to fund the music
programs in our schools, to raise money for the participating school choral
programs, and to provide these students with an amazing venue in which to
sing.
The proceeds of this
concert will be divided evenly among the participating schools, after costs
have been met.
Former Utah Governor
Olene Walker will be the keynote speaker for this event. She is known as Utah’s
“education governor” and we are thrilled that she was able to clear her
busy schedule and be with us for this wonderful evening.
Gene Pack, film and stage
actor and former “voice” of KUER and NPR, will be our emcee. Mr. Pack has been a supporter of Jubilate for
many years and has performed with the choir numerous times.
The choirs will be
performing separately and will combine for the finale. At this time, the music of a new
American composer will be premiered.
The title of the piece is “A New Song for America”
and the composer is Elva Avara.
Mrs. Avara is a resident of Mississippi
and her town was inundated by Hurricane Katrina. She is flying into Salt
Lake for this event and will be
our guest of honor.
Tickets to the event are
$20 each, general admission. Tickets are on sale February
1, 2007. (*See below).
No children under the age of eight years will be admitted since we
will be recording the event.
This includes babes in arms.
